Aside from periodic maintenance personnel, the rooftop stair landings were usually unoccupied. Prior to the design of the pedestrian access barriers, the maintenance folks had company, however. Over the years, college students, being the feisty mammals they are, had discovered the romantic value in this interior real estate. The spirit of Marvin Gaye alive and well on the top flight of some stairs, much to the chagrin of administrators and what must have been very surprised maintenance workers on routine checks. Always sad to sever human connections but alas, intimacy and patience can become irreconcilable competing values. Save it until you get home, you rascals.
